Take a Visit to Beautiful Chandler, ArizonaChandler, Arizona of Maricopa County is located 19 miles southeast of Phoenix and has a population of around 170,000. Chandler offers beautiful weather with abundant sunshine year round. The downtown area resembles an oasis of lovely palm trees, a breathtaking mountainous background, and historic buildings combined with modern constructions. A Brief History Chandler was named after Dr. Alexander John Chandler, a veterinarian surgeon who bought 80 acres of land from the government just south of Mesa. The town of Chandler was incorporated in 1920 after being a trade center for farmers in its earlier years. Then in 1954 Chandler was incorporated as a city. Chandler grew in population substantially between 1950 and 1980, and has continued to expand as nearby metropolitan area of Phoenix flourished. The addition of manufacturing plants and computing firms such as Intel and Motorola have contributed to Chandler's growth as well. Tourist Attractions in Chandler For art lovers there's the Chandler Center for the Arts and also the Vision Gallery, where displays are shown in the form of canvas, sculptures, watercolors and hand blown glass. The Arizona Railway Museum displays railway artifacts and equipment and is located in Chandler's very first train depot. There are the Chandler Museum and Dugan's Dairy Farm, which is always an exciting place for kids. Nature lovers enjoy the walking trails and beautiful lakes at the Desert Breeze Park, which is also a habitat for hummingbirds. There are also the Snedigar Sportsplex and the Snedigar Skatepark. For swimming there are two water parks - the Hamilton Aquatic Center and the Desert Oasis Aquatic Center. Visitors and residents also enjoy local golf courses, ice skating and tennis. For dining out, Chandler offers a variety of restaurants with menus of Mediterranean cuisine, pizza, Vietnamese dining and American specialties. Special Events in Chandler The Ostrich Festival is a celebration of ostrich ranching, which was once prominent in Chandler, and is held each year in March at Tumbleweed Park. The event features live entertainment, an old-fashioned community parade, karate demonstrations and even a carnival with state fair size rides, a petting zoo, and more! Music lovers enjoy the Chandler Jazz Festival, held annually in the historic downtown area during April. The Arizona Balloon Festival is in November. Other events include the National Festival of the West, which is usually held in March, the Lakefest in April, and Winger Fest in February. Living in Chandler Chandler has much to offer its residents. The climate is wonderful, with its mild temperatures and abundant sunshine. The city is located only 20 minutes from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, which is the sixth largest in the United States. Chandler offers easy access to the major highways and interstates of Phoenix. There are around 20 elementary schools and several middle and high schools in the area. Chandler has one community college, and is just a short distance from the colleges and universities of Phoenix, including Arizona State University. Employment opportunities in Chandler include a variety of high skilled jobs in the fields of technology, education and health. Agriculture still has its place in Chandler as well. The city's transportation advantages give the city tremendous business growth potential, and new businesses are often attracted to the area for that reason.
